Spotlight | Here's How You Can Take Your Family Holidays a Notch Above

Picture waking up to sun-drenched landscapes just outside your window, indulging in exquisite Michelin meals, and sinking into plush beds after a whole day of exploration. It's a vision that ignites the wanderlust within us all. There is no doubt that family holidays spent basking in the beauty of breathtaking destinations and luxuriating in the comfort of star properties are the ultimate dream. However, there's a missing piece to the puzzle when it comes to crafting truly unforgettable family holidays. Beyond luxury destinations, indulging in unique activities together as a family is what makes family holidays so wholesome.

Engaging in activities allows families to connect on a deeper level, create jubilant memories, and foster holistic well-being for everyone. From adventurous to mind-enriching experiences, when activities are thoughtfully chosen to cater to diverse interests and age groups, These activities go beyond mere entertainment. They’re also a gateway for physical exercise, mental rejuvenation, and meaningful connections with loved ones and the environment.

This is why we spoke to Zoe Jenkins, General Manager at Coworth Park to help us understand why activities are crucial for family holidays, which are the best ones, and how families can make the most of their time together.

PL: What makes the British Countryside a unique location for Family Holidays?

Zoe Jenkins: The British countryside, particularly around Coworth Park, offers a multifaceted experience that caters to every member of the family. Nestled within 240 acres of pristine Berkshire parkland, our estate provides a serene backdrop for families to unwind and reconnect with nature. From scenic walking trails to enchanting woodlands, every corner of Coworth Park's countryside exudes tranquillity and countryside charm. Families can embark on leisurely strolls or simply relax amidst the beauty of our expansive gardens. Moreover, the proximity to historic villages such as Windsor and cultural landmarks adds a layer of enjoyment to the family holiday experience.

PL: Could you enlighten our readers on the benefits of engaging in activities during holidays?

Zoe Jenkins: Engaging in activities during holidays not only provides entertainment but also fosters holistic well-being for families. At Coworth Park, our curated selection of activities caters to diverse interests and age groups, ensuring that every member of the family finds something for them. Whether it's horse riding lessons, archery sessions, or interactive nature walks, each activity offers opportunities for physical exercise and mental rejuvenation, creating meaningful connections with loved ones.

PL: In your opinion, what are some activities or experiences that families should prioritize when visiting the countryside, including those for younger children?

Zoe Jenkins: Families visiting Coworth Park should prioritise activities that celebrate the beauty of our natural surroundings while catering to the interests of younger children. One of our favourite moments for families is the horse-drawn carriage rides around the grounds which provides a true scenic experience that everyone can enjoy. For a more adventurous experience, polo lessons, and pony rides through our estate or family-friendly cycling excursions around Great Windsor Park provide opportunities to explore, followed by downtime in the Kids Club.

We also provide family mindfulness sessions, which provide a calming end to the day, whether indoors or outdoors depending on the weather. Teaching children how to quieten their minds provides huge benefits to their overall well-being.

PL: Are there any lesser-known or underrated activities that families might overlook but are truly worth experiencing during their holidays in nature?

Zoe Jenkins: There are a number of lesser-known activities for families to enjoy such as taking a walk up to our bee hives or even helping our executive chef Adam Smith forage around the grounds to find ingredients for his delicious dishes. Additionally, our spa partner, Ishga, is launching a range of children’s products, and we will soon offer ‘little ishga’ mini treatments, led by one of our spa therapists.

PL: How do you balance conservation with recreational activities at Coworth Park?

Zoe Jenkins: At Coworth Park, we are deeply committed to preserving the natural environment while providing unparalleled recreational experiences for our guests. Our conservation efforts are woven into the fabric of every activity, from sustainable practices to habitat restoration projects. For example, our equestrian centre follows ethical horsemanship principles, prioritising the welfare of our horses and minimising our ecological footprint. Additionally, our outdoor pursuits are designed to promote environmental awareness and respect for nature, inspiring guests to become stewards of the countryside.

PL: What activities are unique to Coworth Park and are unmissable?

Zoe Jenkins: Coworth Park offers a plethora of unique activities that showcase the essence of our estate and provide unforgettable experiences for guests. Our falconry days are a real hit with children of all ages (and grown-ups too), which offers a rare opportunity to witness majestic birds, from owls to eagles, in flight against the backdrop of our scenic countryside. Guests can also enjoy garden picnics in the warmer months, or try their hand at tennis or croquet. We also have our own helipad so we can arrange trips across the skyline of London!
