Kenya Trip
Travelling is like creating a tradition for yourself, that you wholeheartedly embrace for new, transformative experiences or to simply unwind and surrender to the magic of exploration. Either way, it is a commitment you need to make to create memories and inspire yourself and the world around you.
Speaking of traditions, we are excited to establish one of our own by sharing personal travel stories from our members to ignite your wanderlust. In our first episode of Around the World with Our Members, we saw a group of friends having a ball under the dancing Northern Lights, a family of four navigating the pristine waters of Wakatobi and a truly special milestone birthday celebration across Europe.
These trips are all a testament that panning different horizons solo or with your loved ones in tow brings you back to life, gives you a break from the humdrum of routine and sets you free. It’s important, you soak it all in, while you’re at it. Here’s sharing some more travel stories to inspire you to have your own.
Part 1 | Bali & Sumba
Expectations from the Trip
We had been craving a getaway, a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with each other and nature. From the moment we arrived, the tranquillity of our surroundings instantly put us at ease, and we found ourselves slipping into a state of blissful relaxation.
Each day unfolded like a dream, spent exploring the breathtaking beauty of the natural landscape in Bali and Sumba—from leisurely hikes through sun-dappled forests and fields of Ubud to lazy afternoons by the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean or the Ayung River. There was also something truly magical about being immersed in such unspoiled wilderness of the Sumbanese island, away from the distractions of modern life.
But perhaps the most special moments were the ones we shared together. We laughed, we talked, we dreamed. And in those moments, I felt more connected to my partner than ever before.
So, did reality live up to our expectations? Absolutely, and then some. This trip was everything we had hoped for and more—a rejuvenating escape that not only brought us closer together but also reminded us of the simple joys that nature has to offer.
Favourite Moments
Where do I even begin? There were so many incredible moments from this trip that it's hard to pick just a few favourites! But if I had to narrow it down, one of the absolute highlights was definitely the unforgettable experience of horseback riding on the beach.
Picture this: the sound of hooves pounding against the sand, the salty breeze caressing our faces, and the sheer exhilaration of galloping along the shoreline. And then, to top it all off, we took those majestic creatures right into the ocean as we rode through the surf. It was pure magic.
Another standout moment was learning to paddleboard. There's something incredibly freeing about gliding across the water, feeling the sun warm on your skin and the gentle rhythm of the waves beneath you. It was a bit of a challenge at first, but once we got the hang of it, it was pure bliss.
And let's not forget about the relaxation factor. We treated ourselves to some well-deserved pampering at the outdoor spas, indulging in soothing massages and rejuvenating treatments while taking in the backdrop of Bali and Sumba, which left us feeling utterly blissed out.
So, those were our perfect moments—a blend of adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences.
Advice for Visitors
Have a plan, but keep it flexible. Sure, it's great to have a rough itinerary, but don't be afraid to veer off course if a local recommends a hidden gem or an unexpected adventure pops up. Some of the best memories are made when you least expect them!
And speaking of adventures, don't hesitate to repeat or revisit places that you may not have had your fill of. Whether it's that charming little café you stumbled upon or that breathtaking hiking trail you just can't get enough of, don't be afraid to indulge in the things that bring you joy.
It's easy to get caught up in the rush of trying to check off every item on your list, but true magic happens when you take the time to savour the moment. Embrace the slow living vibe, soak in your surroundings, and truly immerse yourself in the experience. You won't regret it!

Part 2 | Italy: Milan, Lake Como, Taormina & Rome
Expectations from the Trip
We sought a diverse Italian experience, from Milan's extravagance to Lake Como's quaintness, Taormina's pristine seclusion, and the vibrant history of Rome. Staying at the most prestigious hotels was essential, prioritising comfort, exceptional service, and prime locations. Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan, Hotel Villa D'este in Lake Como, The San Domenico Palace in Taormina, and The Portrait in Rome fulfilled these desires beautifully.
Favourite Moments
In Milan, our stay at Hotel Principe di Savoia was delightful. The hotel’s charm and the beautifully appointed rooms made it a memorable experience. It was a 15-minute drive from the Design District, but it had its own charm. The hotel's bar was a lovely experience perfect for unwinding after exploring the city's vibrant atmosphere.
Lake Como’s Villa d’Este is a gorgeous and sprawling estate, steeped in history, that truly embodies the elegance of Lake Como. The location and extensive grounds of the hotel made our stay memorable. Exploring the beautiful surroundings of Lake Como, including visits to Bellagio and Varenna, was a must-do.
Taormina was an absolute highlight of our trip. The San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons Hotel, exceeded all expectations. The staff's warmth and hospitality were unparalleled; they upgraded us to a stunning ocean-facing suite that offered breathtaking views. The hotel's central location made it easy to explore, yet we found ourselves enjoying the luxurious amenities and relaxing atmosphere so much that we rarely ventured far. The restaurant Anchovi served delectable cuisine, and the personalised service, from the check-in team to the concierge, was exceptional. The recommendations for local dining were spot on, and their assistance, even walking us to a nearby hair salon, added a personal touch that made our stay truly special.
In Rome, the Lungarno Collection's Portrait Roma provided a unique blend of luxury and homeliness. The hotel's prime location, just minutes from the Spanish Steps and top shopping spots, made it an ideal base for exploring the city. Here we got upgraded as well, to a two-level room which was great. It was complete with an exercise bike, sauna, and a spacious walk-in wardrobe. The abundance of complimentary amenities, including a gigantic bottle of whisky and various snacks, made us feel incredibly pampered. The minimal staff interaction and efficient service gave the hotel a cosy, serviced apartment-like feel, perfect for a relaxed and private stay. Breakfast on the terrace was a daily delight, with the ham and cheese omelette being a standout.
Advice for Visitors
For those planning a trip to Milan, staying at Hotel Principe di Savoia is highly recommended. If you want to enjoy the city's vibrant atmosphere, travelling during Design Week could be a great idea, but if you want a relaxing trip, don’t clash your trip with Design Week. Restaurants are also bustling during this time so getting tables could get a bit daunting.
In Taormina, you have to experience the stay at San Domenico Palace. The hotel's outstanding location and exceptional service ensure a memorable experience. Take advantage of the staff's local knowledge for dining recommendations. There's plenty to explore in Taormina, including an amphitheatre and a cable car if you want to venture out but we preferred staying around town for easy access to all amenities and enjoyed the luxuries of our stay.
If you’re seeking a traditional hotel experience the Portrait Roma might not be the best for you because it has a service-apartment feel but make it luxe. I have previously stayed at two different Portrait Hotels and loved it so this one’s actually an acquired taste. The location and views were perfect so it’s definitely worth a try.

This holiday exceeded every one of our expectations, offering more than just a visual spectacle. It provided a deeply fulfilling experience that connected us with the animal kingdom in ways we never imagined. The seamless blend of excitement, education, and awe made this trip truly unforgettable.
Favourite Moments
While the safaris were undoubtedly the main attraction and provided countless thrilling moments, there were several standout experiences that made this trip exceptional. The overall service of the hotel was impeccable, with attentive staff and luxurious accommodations enhancing our stay. The guides, with their extensive knowledge and passion for wildlife, added a layer of depth to every excursion. From witnessing a lion pride on the hunt to enjoying sundowners with breathtaking views of the savannah, each moment was a highlight. The combination of world-class service and exhilarating safari experiences created a perfect harmony, making every day of our trip a cherished memory.
